Up until recently, there was little more we could do than tear out a clay liner and replace it with a stainless steel liner. What was bad about that was the cost for homeowners. Like so many things today, the best choice often costs the most, while insurance companies and budgets almost always choose the cheapest choice, which most of the time has no warranty.

Stainless steel liners have a lifetime warranty and have always been the best solution for damaged masonry liners. That is until now.

The HeatShield® Method:

First, a mold is custom cut to the size of the existing flue. Next, our technicians pour the specially formulated “cerfractory” sealant material on top of the mold as it is pulled from the top of the firebox to the top of the flue. This pushes the material into the gaps and cracks of the liner surface, smoothing and sealing as it goes.

While this is a great new method, it cannot be used 100% of the time. We do find clay liners that are too far gone and in such disrepair that the only thing we can do is replace it with a stainless steel liner.

By using the ChimScan® Internal Evaluation Camera when conducting the chimney inspection, we’ll be able to see the entire run of the liner in 360 degrees. This is the only way we can determine if the HeatShield® method is the best for a customer.
