Gas Appliance Maintenance

Off-season maintenance for your fireplace may not seem very important, but gas problems can pose problems even if they aren’t being used. Close them out properly for the spring and summer seasons.

| Gas Appliance Checklist |

☑️ Remove all combustible items from around the appliance

☑️ Clean dust and dirt from the outside of the appliance

☑️ Install a carbon monoxide detector or properly test an already installed detector

☑️ Make sure all members of the home our knowledgeable about the safety risks and proper directions on how to use the appliance

☑️ Call a CSIA certified sweep for an inspection and cleaning (this should happen at the end of each burn season and before the beginning of a new season.)

☑️ If any repairs of replacements are needed, make those before using the appliance for safety precautions

That being said, you want to make sure your appliance is properly closed out. Your system may be clogged or have some built up residue that needs to be addressed. Along with that, your CSIA certified technician may notice that some of your chimney parts need to be replaced, and/or fixed before anything is put to use. All of these issues lead to some potentially dangerous situations for your home and family, one of which includes exposure to carbon monoxide.

You can go through this checklist to make sure your appliance is safe this summer.
