Gas Fireplace Maintenance

Putting off maintenance on your gas fireplace can affect your health and home. Save on future repair costs and have confidence in your system with proper maintenance.

The health of your family and safety of your home are your top priorities, so shouldn’t you do everything possible to make sure your gas fireplace is working safely and efficiently?

We know that most homeowners aren’t aware that their gas fireplace needs maintenance, but it does. Learn about what issues you may face and what your solutions are if you choose to delay maintenance.

Are You Experiencing Any of These Problems?

  • Your pilot light is on and your gas is on, but your fireplace won’t light.
  • Your pilot light went out.
  • You need to have the embers in your gas fireplace replaced.
  • You need yearly service for your gas appliance.
  • Your carbon monoxide detector is going off

If you are experiencing any of these problems then it’s time to book gas services before you use your appliance.

Even if you aren’t having a problem, prevention is key. Investing in yearly maintenance protects you from fires, gas exposure and any malfunctions that cost you even more down the road.

How Often Should a Gas Fireplace be Swept?

Any gas fireplace, whether it is a gas insert, a gas stove, or a fireplace with gas logs, requires annual service. While gas fireplaces certainly don’t produce the soot and creosote that wood burning fireplaces do, they still require technical servicing and debris removed. We can take care of this during an annual servicing.

Do You Have to Service a Gas Fireplace?

Gas fireplaces are fueled by natural or propane (LP) gas. All gas fireplaces need annual service for correct, efficient, and safe operation. Annual service is important because it allows the unit to be properly cleaned, tested, and checked for anything that could reduce appliance safety or efficiency. Valves, connections, thermocouples and thermopiles, and the venting system need to be checked for wear and suitability for use.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU CALL:
When you call we will have a couple questions for you.

  1. What is the appliance needing inspection? Is it a furnace, wood stove, or gas fireplace?
  2. What does the outside of the chimney look like? Is brick, stone, block, covered in siding or a metal pipe?
  3. Are you having any problems with your system? Campfire smell or odor, animals or birds getting in, system smokes inside the home when you use it, or water leaks?
  4. Are you buying or selling your home?
This information allows us to explain what our technicians will do when they come to your home and what to expect during our inspection process.
*If you don’t know these answers, it’s okay! We can help you figure it out.
